One Year Later: Remembering the Vegas Massacre
DK ONLINE: One year has come and gone that fast. It is unbelievable. This time in 2017, I was on the ground in Las Vegas covering the worst mass shooting on American soil. Stephen Paddock unleased scores of rounds out of high-powered rifles from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay hotel and resort, just as country star Jason Aldean was performing at the Route 91 Harvest music festival. What followed was shear panic, chaos and death in the dozens. In the end, 58 people were dead. More than 800 were injured. Below are live reports I filed over the course of several days, after landing in Vegas within hours of the attack. This day will never leave my mind, nor will the memories of the victims. Continued prayers to their families and to those injured, and still recovering from this dark day in our nation’s history.
